Recipes from Sumac Season: Sumac Infused Yogurt

Aug 19 / Alberto Carbo
Sumac ‘spice’ infused yogurt is a simple, but versatile way to elevate many dishes.

Sumac Infused Yogurt

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup yogurt of your choice, also works with dairy-free yogurt
  • 3 teaspoons sumac spice

Procedure: Mix the sumac spice with the yogurt and allow it to sit in the fridge for 24 hours.

Variations:
  • I like to use plain yogurt. If I am going to use it on a sweet dish, for example, pancakes, then I use it as is.
  • If I am going to use the yogurt for a savory dish, then I will likely add a few different things, such as garlic, and whatever else may compliment the dish I am making. For example – a sumac-infused yogurt with garlic and sage would be a nice compliment to any BBQ fare.

As always make sure to forage for plants away from roads and pollution as much as possible. Never overharvest any plant, as they are of course not only here for our enjoyment, but also here for the insects, bees, and birds. Have fun out there!
