What the Extracellular Matrix Means in Therapeutic Terms

Cutting-edge - Revolutionary - Holistic

Unlock the secrets of cellular regulation with our revolutionary class, challenging traditional cell theory and establishing a robust foundation in holistic health.
Many of my friends, students, peers, and readers are as interested in this subject as I am. The extracellular matrix is the first and primal organ of all multicellular life. Out of it arises the connective tissue system by an increase in the manufacture of fibrous material generated by connective tissue cells. It is like a continent rising up out of the ocean, or the move from sea slime to jellyfish to starfish. The matrix sheds new light on the origin of this, the second organ system to arise.

In the higher organisms, the matrix is served by the blood, circulation, and capillary bed, which brings in the nutrition, and by the lymphatics, which remove debris; also by the immune system, which protects the matrix from toxic inputs and helps detox aberrant cell growth and catabolic waste products. So we also want to look at classes on the circulation, immune system, and lymphatics. - Matthew Wood

Ditch reductionism and embrace a holistic approach to health!

Go beyond the basics! Learn to see the whole, remedy with organ-specificity, and master the art of strengthening the matrix.
Discovering that the Extracellular Matrix (ECM) serves as the regulatory system for cells is not only astonishing but also revolutionary, challenging the existing cell theory and establishing holism on a solid, scientific foundation.

This revelation simultaneously discredits reductionism, revealing it as a misguided approach for study and therapy based on the smallest particles, and emphasizing its potential dangers.

With these groundbreaking insights, several fundamental principles come to light:
  • we need to learn to see the whole
  • we are justified in remedying by organ as well (organ-specificity), which involves us in a mechanical understanding of the body as opposed to a molecular approach, and
  • we need to learn to see and address the polymers of the matrix, the internal biome, and the microbiome on the linings of the body.

Holistic practitioners have traditionally focused on addressing the whole and individual organs, often employing a mechanical perspective on organ relationships. This class's primary focus will be on visualizing and strengthening the matrix itself. This involves utilizing mucilages, slurries of matrix polymers derived from plants, and employing astringents to tone the mucosa and microbiome. Additionally, mushrooms, containing polysaccharides or polymers similar to the ECM, can now be understood to exert a more direct influence.
This class was recorded from a live event, similar to how the majority of our webinar classes are recorded, from Matt's computer. Matt is speaking simultaneously to the in-person and online audience via the computer in front of him. The audio turned out great overall. It is difficult to hear some audience questions and comments at times. Please see the webinar text chat and transcript to fill in for these few instances. There are no visual aids.

This is for you if you...

are interested in learning how the health of the cell is determined by the condition of the surrounding matrix.
are curious about addressing organs and systems, not just symptoms and diagnoses.
have seen or experienced the immense benefits of holistic thinking compared to reductionist, or are open to learning.

Upon completion, you will...

gain a very unique holistic perspective of the body, health and the effects of herbs.
acquire skills in visualizing and strengthening the extracellular matrix, gaining expertise in the application of mucilages, astringents, and the unique influence of mushrooms.
feel more confident in addressing organs, the matrix, internal biome and microbiome on the linings of the body.
